Osun senator quits APC over alleged breach of agreement, joins PDP

The senator representing Osun Central Senatorial District, Olubiyi Fadeyi, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a letter addressed to the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, Fadeyi said his resignation from the APC takes immediate effect.

The lawmaker said he joined the APC in good faith to support President Bola Tinubu in his ancestral home after being assured of the party’s sole ticket for the Osun Central Senatorial District.

“Recent developments from the leadership of the APC in Osun State have created serious trust issues within the party and made my continued membership of the party untenable. It was expressly agreed that the process for selecting candidates would be conducted on the basis of consensus. However, no consensus process was genuinely conducted, nor were party primaries held in a transparent and acceptable manner,” he alleged.

Fadeyi said the manner in which decisions were taken undermined due process and disregarded the president’s commitment to party cohesion and democratic values.

He also questioned why tickets were returned to Senator Francis Fadahunsi and House of Representatives members Taofeek Ajilesoro, Wole Oke and Sanya Omirin, who defected alongside him, while his own ticket was denied.

The senator said he earned the confidence of his constituents by defeating an incumbent APC senator in the 2023 general election and expected his performance, loyalty and electoral value to receive fair consideration.

Fadeyi maintained that he remains committed to President Tinubu and the Renewed Hope Agenda, stressing that his decision was driven by his belief in democratic principles, mutual trust and respect for agreements.
