PHOTO NEWS: Shettima leads Nigeria delegation to Sam Nujoma’s state funeral in Namibia

Vice President Kashim Shettima led Nigeria’s delegation to Windhoek, Namibia to the state funeral of the founding President of Namibia Sam Nujoma.

Nigeria led the frontline states to fight the independence of Namibia.

The Namibia independence hero and one of the respected Africa’s statesmen died recently.

Vice President Shettima wrote:

“Today, I represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the state burial of the founding President of the Republic of Namibia, Dr. Sam Shafiishuna Nujoma, held at Heroes’ Acre, Windhoek, Namibia.

“Delivering President Tinubu’s message, I noted that Dr. Nujoma’s demise is not an exit from space and time but the dawn of his immortality in the minds of Africans.

“I paid a glowing tribute to the late founding President of Namibia, describing him as a warrior who galvanized Nigeria and other African nations to fight for his country’s freedom.

“The late Dr. Nujoma, a revered figure who led his country to independence and steered the nation toward democracy and stability, passed away on February 8, 2025, at the age of 95 in a hospital in Windhoek, where he had been receiving treatment for weeks due to an illness.”
