Police restrict movement, deploy personnel ahead of Ondo by-election

The Ondo State Police Command has announced a restriction of vehicular movement across Ondo South Senatorial District on Saturday, June 20, 2026, ahead of the senatorial district by-election.
The development, made public in a statement, was signed by the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abayomi Jimoh, on Friday.
According to the statement, the restriction, which will be in force from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., is part of security arrangements to ensure a peaceful, orderly and credible electoral process in the district.
According to the Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Felix Ohagwu, adequate security personnel have been deployed across the senatorial district to safeguard the election.
“The command wishes to assure residents of Ondo South that sufficient security operatives have been strategically deployed to polling units, collation centres, INEC offices and other sensitive locations,” he said.
He further stated that movement on both land and waterways will be restricted, except for accredited INEC officials, journalists, election observers, emergency responders and other authorized persons.
“All forms of vehicular and waterway movement within the senatorial district are restricted within the stipulated hours, except for essential election duty personnel,” CP Ohagwu warned.
The command further urged political actors and residents to avoid violence, vote-buying and other electoral offences, warning that offenders would be arrested and prosecuted.
