Rivers Govt recovers vehicles from suspended Deputy Governor

The Rivers State Government has retrieved three official vehicles from the residence of Ngozi Odu, the suspended deputy governor, describing the move as a standard administrative procedure—not a political attack.
According to a statement issued Tuesday by Hector Igbikiowubo, media aide to Sole Administrator Ibok-Ete Ibas, the recovered vehicles include two Toyota Hilux vans and a Hiace bus.
He said the retrieval followed a directive to secure state assets and dismissed criticism as politically motivated.
“This lawful action has been twisted by political opportunists trying to stir unnecessary tension,” Igbikiowubo stated, questioning why the vehicles remained in Odu’s custody over a month after a state of emergency was declared in the state.
He emphasized that the asset recovery effort was not executive overreach but part of the administration’s duty to ensure proper use of public resources.
The statement urged the public to ignore “sensationalised narratives” and focus on the government’s effort to maintain order and accountability in Rivers State.
Odu was suspended amid sweeping administrative changes by the Ibas-led interim government, which also dissolved boards and sacked officials appointed by suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
