Security lapses in Oyo caused Operation Burst base attack — APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has described the attack on an Operation Burst base as an indication of security lapses under the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde.
The party made the assertion in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Wasiu Sadare, on Monday, in reaction to the reported invasion that occurred Sunday between 5:30 a.m. and 6 a.m. along the Igbeti-Igboho road.
A yet-to-be-identified group reportedly invaded the base, located in Olorunsogo Local Government Area, and carted away some property, including a generator and a motorcycle.
The APC said the incident had exposed concerns about the security situation in the state while raising questions about the functionality of the multimillion-naira surveillance aircraft recently acquired by the Makinde administration.
Sadare questioned why the surveillance aircraft was allegedly not deployed to track the attackers during the incident, particularly as the attack reportedly lasted for more than an hour.
“Since the day Governor Makinde celebrated the purported delivery of the two aircraft, nothing has either been heard or felt about their deployment to survey the airspace in the state,” he said.
The APC spokesman also criticised Makinde’s repeated opposition to President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, describing his position as an exhibition of poor knowledge of economic management.
The party said the inability to use the surveillance aircraft to detect or track the attackers had cast doubt on the state government’s claims about their effectiveness. Sadare added, “Therefore, it is safe to say that the whole story about security surveillance aircraft is another scam.”
