Senator Bamidele pledges ₦200m annual research fund to Ekiti varsity

The Senate Leader of the 10th National Assembly, Opeyemi Bamidele, has pledged an annual research grant of ₦200m to lecturers of the Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences, Iyin-Ekiti.
He disclosed this during the institution’s maiden matriculation ceremony for the 2025/2026 academic session.
Western Post gathered that a total of 1,564 pioneer students were formally admitted at the event, marking the university’s first matriculation exercise since its establishment.
Speaking on his plans for the institution’s development, Bamidele disclosed that arrangements were ongoing to expand the university from four existing faculties to seven in order to strengthen its academic and research capacity.
He also noted that engagements had commenced with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria to secure accreditation for proposed programmes, while equally disclosing that construction work had begun on the Medical Village at the school’s permanent site, which will include a hospital with an Intensive Care Unit, a diagnostic centre equipped with MRI and CT scanning machines, as well as eye, dental, and kidney dialysis centres.
Among other gifts given by Bamidele at the matriculation ceremony were relief materials, bags of rice, tubers of yam, clothing materials and a cash gift of ₦20,000 to each newly admitted student, bringing his total donation to ₦31.28m.
