Shaffy Bello urges women in ‘runs’ lifestyle to seek better opportunities

Veteran Nollywood actress Bimpe Shaffy Bello has advised young women involved in transactional relationships, popularly known as “runs”, not to remain trapped in the lifestyle despite understanding the economic realities that push many into it.

The actress made the remarks during an interview on The Morayo Show hosted by Morayo Afolabi-Brown, where she spoke about self-worth, societal pressure and the influence of social media on young women.

According to Bello, many young women wrongly believe they must expose their bodies or seek online validation to be considered attractive or successful.

She stressed that women should recognise their value beyond physical appearance and social media attention, noting that young people need guidance and positive voices that encourage dignity and purpose.

“And if what you’re doing now is being a runs girl to make money, you don’t have to stay there. I understand it. I’m not knocking you. I never judge. If that’s what you have to do right now to survive, I understand it. However, my darlings, don’t stay there. You are more than that,” she said.

Bello noted that some women engage in transactional relationships because of financial responsibilities, including supporting parents and paying school fees for siblings.

The actress encouraged young women to pursue personal growth and better opportunities, insisting that they are capable of becoming more than their present circumstances.

Reflecting on her career, Bello said she remains focused on acting because she believes it is her calling, adding that she is more interested in making meaningful impact through her platform than chasing wealth alone.
