Shettima leads Armed Forces Remembrance Day in Abuja

Vice President Kashim Shettima on Wednesday represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration at the National Arcade, Abuja.
The annual event, organized by the Ministry of Defence, honors Nigeria’s fallen heroes, including those from the World Wars, the Nigerian Civil War, peacekeeping missions, and internal security operations.
Observed on January 15, the day marks the end of the Nigerian Civil War in 1970. Nigeria adopted this date in 1970 to reflect its unique historical significance, departing from the Commonwealth’s November 11 tradition.
Vice President Shettima, accompanied by the Commander of the Guards Brigade, led the activities in President Tinubu’s absence as the President attends the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week in the UAE.
Dignitaries at the event included Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Christopher Musa, Service Chiefs, Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, SGF George Akume, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Defence Minister Abubakar Badaru, and members of the diplomatic corps.
Shettima is set to release white pigeons in honor of Nigeria’s fallen heroes.
