Tinubu committed to restoring peace, stability in Nigeria — Shettima

Vice President Kashim Shettima has reaffirmed the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to restoring peace and stability across Nigeria amid ongoing security challenges in parts of the country.

Shettima made the remarks on Friday in Abuja after a special Jum’aat prayer held at the National Mosque to mark this year’s Democracy Day celebrations. He urged Nigerians to intensify prayers for peace, unity, and national progress.

“I want to assure Nigerians of President Bola Tinubu’s unwavering commitment towards restoring peace and stability in the nation,” Shettima said, adding that despite current challenges, the government remains determined to overcome insecurity.

He likened the nation’s struggles to a passing storm, expressing optimism that peace would eventually be restored. “No matter how long the night is, it must give way to the light of dawn,” he said.

The vice president also assured that government efforts were ongoing to secure the release of citizens and children currently held by bandits and terrorist groups, while paying tribute to past heroes who helped safeguard Nigeria’s democracy.

Earlier, the chief imam of the National Mosque, Haroun Eze, urged worshippers to remain patriotic and support efforts to address insecurity. He called on leaders at all levels to take decisive steps toward restoring peace, describing it as essential for national development.

The annual Democracy Day prayer gathering emphasized reflection, unity, and national healing as Nigeria continues to navigate security and development challenges.

The event was attended by several top government officials, including chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq; minister of information and national orientation, Mohammed Idris; minister of marine and blue economy, Gboyega Oyetola; and former Kano State governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
