Tinubu inaugurates Abuja court of Appeal complex, tasks judges on fair justice
President Bola Tinubu on Monday praised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for delivering the newly constructed Court of Appeal Abuja Division Building Complex within schedule, while urging judicial officers to ensure speedy and impartial justice for Nigerians.
Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the commissioning of the complex in Dakibiyu, Abuja, the President said Wike had demonstrated commitment to his administration’s judicial reform agenda through the provision of modern court infrastructure and improved welfare for judicial officers.
“You took the assignment to deliver this project in May 2024. By July, contractors were on site. You promised 16 months. You delivered in record time. No excuses. No variation. Just results. Nigerians can see the difference. We are proud of your dedication to duty,” Tinubu said.
The President noted that the FCT Minister had effectively domesticated the administration’s policy thrust on judicial reforms by building more courts, constructing residences for judges, digitising judicial processes, and supporting legal education within the territory.
While commending the minister, Tinubu charged judges to ensure that justice is dispensed fairly and without delay, stressing that public confidence in the judiciary depends on timely adjudication of cases.
“Let justice be swift. Let it be fair. Let it be blind to status, tribe, or purse. Let the common man feel that this Court is truly his last hope,” he said.
Tinubu described the new court complex as a critical investment in the justice sector and a reflection of the Renewed Hope Agenda’s commitment to strengthening institutions and promoting the rule of law.
According to him, the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal had operated for too long from inadequate facilities, a situation he considered unacceptable for an institution entrusted with determining election petitions, constitutional disputes, and other high-profile cases.
