Tinubu orders permanent security reinforcement at NIPSS after deadly bandit attack

President Bola Tinubu has directed the immediate and permanent reinforcement of security at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, following a recent bandit attack on the institution’s perimeter that claimed the lives of two soldiers and a police officer.
The directive was conveyed on Friday by Vice President Kashim Shettima while addressing participants of Senior Executive Course (SEC) 48, 2026, at NIPSS on behalf of the President.
According to the Vice President, the Federal Government has activated emergency security measures to safeguard the institute and other strategic national assets. He disclosed that the Director-General of NIPSS has been instructed to work closely with the Armed Forces, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Department of State Services (DSS) to strengthen the institution’s security infrastructure.
Shettima stated that a comprehensive action plan detailing permanent security reinforcement measures—including surveillance systems, personnel deployment, access control mechanisms, and emergency response structures—must be submitted to the Office of the Vice President within 72 hours. Weekly progress reports are also expected until full implementation.
“No future attack must find us unprepared,” the Vice President said, emphasizing President Tinubu’s commitment to protecting critical national institutions.
Describing NIPSS as Nigeria’s strategic intellectual nerve centre, Shettima noted that the attack was aimed at creating fear and disrupting the training of future leaders but instead revealed the courage and resilience of the institute’s participants, management, and security personnel.
The Vice President extended the Federal Government’s condolences to the families of the three security officers who lost their lives during the attack.
“We mourn with you. We share your pain. And we honour their sacrifice,” he said.
