Tinubu vows to ease hardship amid fuel price hike

President Bola Tinubu has reassured Nigerians that his administration is actively working to ease the economic hardship caused by rising fuel prices and global economic pressures.

Speaking during a one-day working visit to Bayelsa State, the President acknowledged the strain on citizens but insisted that the government remains committed to reducing the burden on vulnerable households.

“Yes, I hear you from various angles of the economy. The fuel prices are biting hard,” Tinubu said, stressing that steps are being taken to address the situation.

During the visit, the President commissioned several projects executed by Governor Douye Diri, including the Yenagoa–Gbaramatu Road, the 630-metre Angiama–Oporoma Bridge, the Sagbama–Ekeremor Road, and the 60-megawatt gas turbine Independent Power Project.

Delivering his address, Tinubu assured Nigerians that his administration will continue to implement measures to cushion the effects of ongoing economic reforms. “We will continue to find ways to ameliorate the suffering of the vulnerable. This is a government that cares,” he said.

The President also attributed part of the economic challenges to global developments beyond Nigeria’s control, including international conflicts affecting prices and supply chains. “The challenge of the war we didn’t call for… the effects of an interrelated world we share,” he noted.

Tinubu further said that economic teams in the Ministry of Finance and national planning institutions are constantly reviewing data to identify solutions to reduce hardship and stabilise the economy.

He emphasised that despite current difficulties, his administration remains focused on protecting citizens and ensuring long-term economic recovery.
