Top influencers embark on India tour to explore CNG potential for Nigeria
As Nigeria accelerates efforts to embrace compressed natural gas (CNG) as a key energy source, four prominent Nigerian influencers—music legend 2Face Idibia, lifestyle influencer Ola of Lagos, Northern musician Rarara, and comedian Basketmouth—are heading to India on a fact-finding mission organized by the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI).
The initiative aims to provide Nigerians with a first-hand look at how India, one of the world’s leading adopters of CNG, has successfully integrated it into transportation, domestic, and industrial sectors.
The influencers will document their journey, offering insights into India’s CNG ecosystem, which includes conversion centers, refueling stations, gas distribution hubs, and industrial applications.
The trip, supported by Nigerian companies Femadec Energy and Rolling Energy, also includes a representative from the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Africa’s largest commercial transportation union.
Toyin Subair, Vice Chairman of PCNGI, highlighted the importance of this initiative in building public confidence in Nigeria’s energy transition.
“This is about empowering Nigerians with knowledge and dispelling doubts sowed by politics or vested interests. I commend these cultural icons for becoming the eyes and ears of the people,” Subair said.
India’s CNG success, with tens of millions of vehicles running on the fuel and robust infrastructure built over 15 years, offers Nigeria a roadmap for its own energy transition.
“By showing real-world examples, we’re fostering transparency and encouraging Nigerians to engage with the facts,” added Otega Ogra, Senior Special Assistant (Digital/New Media) to President Bola Tinubu.
