Two EKSU students die in separate road crashes along same highway

Two students of Ekiti State University lost their lives in separate road accidents that occurred on Monday along the busy Ado–Iworoko axis in Ekiti State.
One of the incidents took place in the evening at Iworoko Junction when a trailer reportedly veered off course and crashed into roadside shops at the bustling area.
Eyewitnesses said the out-of-control truck ploughed into several structures, killing a 200-level student of the institution on the spot.
A young girl who was trapped beneath the trailer was, however, rescued alive by bystanders before emergency responders arrived at the scene.
As of press time, it is unclear the true reason why the trailer veered off the road, while details of other possible casualties are yet to be confirmed.
Earlier in the day, a Lexus car conveying five students of the university was involved in a lone accident along the same road.
Sources attributed the crash to excessive speed, noting that the vehicle struck a culvert and somersaulted multiple times, leading to the death of one occupant while four others sustained injuries.
In a statement issued by the Students’ Union Government and signed by its President, Anjola Osunyomi, the apex students’ body described the incidents as tragic, commiserated with the bereaved families, and urged students to exercise caution, adding that efforts would be made to ensure accountability in the trailer accident.
