Veekee James slams critic over frequent public appearances with husband

Celebrity fashion designer Veekee James has fired back at a critic who questioned her frequent public appearances with her husband, Femi Atere.

The criticism followed a video Veekee shared of herself and her husband getting ready for TikTok creator Peller’s wedding on Saturday. An online user took to the comment section to ask whether Atere had any independence outside their marriage, noting that he was often seen accompanying his wife to public events. The user also suggested that Veekee had turned her husband into a “handbag”.

Responding in an Instagram post on Monday, Veekee defended their relationship, insisting that marriage is about partners sharing every aspect of their lives. She described their union as being like “key and padlock”, adding that they had both chosen to build their lives around each other.

She said, “Yes. My husband does not have a life of his own. His life is my life. The same way I don’t have a life of my own, my life is his life. He is me, I am him. Together we are like gods. Padlock and key. You don’t know what marriage is. His life is mine, my life is his. Everything he is, is mine”.

Veekee also challenged the critic to approach marriage differently, saying, “When you marry your own, separate him. When you marry your own, remove him from your life and keep him somewhere else. But you see this my own? He is me, and I am him”.

The fashion entrepreneur maintained that she and her husband would continue attending events together despite public criticism.

“You’ve not even seen anything. You’ll see me and my husband anywhere possible. Everywhere possible. You will see us,” she said, before playfully referring to her husband as “her handbag,” echoing the critic’s remark.
