Why Makinde should have been removed long ago – Oyo APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has dismissed reports of an alleged impeachment plot against Governor Seyi Makinde, describing the claims as a fabricated distraction aimed at attracting public sympathy for the governor.

In a statement issued in Ibadan by its Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, the party said the impeachment narrative was a “badly written script” and denied any involvement of President Bola Tinubu, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja, or former First Lady Florence Ajimobi.

The APC, however, insisted that Makinde “ought to have been impeached long ago,” alleging that serious abuses of office had been recorded against his administration since 2019.

The party claimed the impeachment story was being promoted by the governor’s supporters to create sympathy and distract attention from mounting political challenges ahead of the 2027 elections.

It further alleged that issues such as alleged mismanagement of local government funds, contract inflation, and diversion of relief funds meant for victims of the Bodija explosion amount to impeachable offences that should be investigated.

The APC maintained that no amount of political propaganda would prevent accountability, warning that the issues raised would eventually be addressed.

Governor Makinde is yet to respond to the allegations as of press time.
