Edo APC demands repayment of N150m from ex-chairman Oyegun
The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on former national chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, to repay what it claims are outstanding loans and unpaid membership dues amounting to more than N150 million.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Edo APC chairman, Jarrett Tenebe, said repeated efforts had been made to recover the alleged debts without success, prompting the party to go public. The party alleged that the liabilities were accumulated during Odigie-Oyegun’s years as a member and leader of the APC, including his tenure as the party’s pioneer national chairman between 2014 and 2018.
According to Tenebe, the claims include loans purportedly granted to Odigie-Oyegun during his time as national chairman. “Our records also reveal accumulated membership dues which the ADC National Leader refused to pay into the party’s coffers all through the period of his membership of the APC,” he said.
He said the APC considered the public demand necessary, accusing the former chairman of refusing to fulfil obligations to a party that, in his words, provided him with a platform for political prominence.
Reacting to the allegations, Odigie-Oyegun dismissed them as unfounded and politically driven, saying they were not worth taking seriously.
He argued that the accusations reflected the APC’s anxiety over the growing influence of the ADC and the broader opposition movement, insisting that the ruling party was responding with hostility rather than constructive engagement.
Odigie-Oyegun also accused the APC in Edo State of damaging the state’s image through what he described as violence and unwarranted attacks, adding that such actions highlighted deeper problems within the party.
Odigie-Oyegun, a former governor of Edo State, recently defected from the APC to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as part of an opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general election. Since leaving the ruling party, he has become a vocal critic of both the APC and President Bola Tinubu.
