Traditional rulers in the Ikorodu Division of Lagos State have pledged their support for President Bola Tinubu, Lagos APC governorship candidate Obafemi Hamzat and other candidates of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The monarchs made their position known on Thursday during a meeting between Hamzat and traditional rulers in the division at the palace of the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabiru Shotobi.

The meeting was attended by Lagos Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Hamzat, APC deputy governorship candidate Damilola Sonayon-James, Lagos APC Chairman Cornelious Ojelabi, members of the Governance Advisory Council and other political leaders and public officials.

Shotobi, the paramount ruler of Ikorodu Division, said the traditional rulers were confident that residents would support Tinubu and Hamzat at the polls, citing their trust in the leaders’ ability to deliver development.

He said the monarchs would mobilise support for Tinubu, Hamzat and other APC candidates, adding that traditional rulers had an important role to play in promoting peaceful and credible elections.

Similarly, the Ranodu of Imota, Oba Ajibade Bakare-Agoro, expressed support for Hamzat, describing his relationship with Sanwo-Olu as one of the factors that strengthened his candidacy. He said Ikorodu had traditionally supported the progressive political camp.

Sanwo-Olu thanked the traditional rulers and political leaders for their support and urged residents to vote for Tinubu and Hamzat. He also challenged the division to deliver 250,000 votes for Tinubu and pledged to work for Hamzat’s election as his successor.

Hamzat urged traditional rulers, political leaders, party members and residents to participate actively in the elections and vote for APC candidates. He said Tinubu’s re-election was important to sustaining the administration’s reform and development agenda.
