Toluwanisings’ widow, father-in-law agree on burial arrangements
The widow of late Nigerian gospel singer, Toluwanisings, Damilola Olayemi, has agreed to have her husband’s remains buried at his residence in Ibadan, Oyo State, following a disagreement with his family over his burial arrangements.
The development was disclosed on Sunday by the singer’s close associate and colleague, Lanre Alewilese, in an Instagram video amid the controversy surrounding the burial plans.
The disagreement reportedly arose after the singer’s family alleged in a viral interview that Olayemi opposed the plan to bury her husband at his Ibadan residence and preferred that he be laid to rest in a cemetery.
However, Toluwanisings’ father reportedly insisted that his son should be taken to his hometown and buried beside his late mother if he could not be buried at his Ibadan residence.
The dispute sparked reactions on social media, with some users questioning the widow’s position and calling for an investigation into the singer’s sudden death.
Addressing the controversy, Alewilese described the disagreement between the widow and her father-in-law as a misunderstanding that had been resolved. He also appealed to Nigerians to stop attacking the deceased singer’s wife.
“Please, for God’s sake, let peace reign. Damilola is very young for what she’s currently going through. I’m very close to the deceased; his wife is accommodating. All his band members can attest to this,” he said.
He added that both parties had agreed to bury the singer at his Ibadan residence, urging the public to allow the widow to mourn her husband in peace.
“The disagreement between Toluwanisings’ father and his widow has been resolved. What happened was just a misunderstanding. The duo have agreed to bury Toluwanisings at his house,” Alewilese said.
