Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has approved the immediate relaxation of the curfew imposed on the warring communities of Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin Osun.
The curfew, which remains in effect until full peace is restored, has been adjusted to run from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. daily, effective from Sunday, May 25, 2025.
The Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, announced the development in a statement issued in Osogbo on Saturday. He explained that the governor’s decision followed the gradual return of peace and in view of the approaching Eid El Kabir festival.
With the new directive, the previously imposed 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. curfew has now been formally relaxed.
Governor Adeleke, however, issued a strong warning to the traditional rulers of the three communities to caution their subjects against any act that could threaten the peace process. He emphasized that any monarch whose subject is found instigating unrest will be held accountable.
“Following the near-total return to peace in Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin Osun, I am pleased to announce that the curfew will now be from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., starting Sunday,” the statement read.
He also directed that all security agencies — including the Army, Police, DSS, and Civil Defence — should maintain 24-hour surveillance in the affected areas.
The governor concluded by wishing residents of the communities and the entire state a peaceful and joyous Eid El Kabir celebration in advance.
