The Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) has concluded the second edition of its annual Creative Writing Training Workshop for Aspiring Writers, held on August 19–20, 2025, at the ANA Institute of Creative Writing and Film, Mamman Vatsa Writers’ Village, Maitama Extension, Abuja.

According to the workshop coordinator, Ngozi Alutulu-Ebulum, the two-day training, themed Mastering the Art of Creative Writing, brought together young literary enthusiasts, mainly from secondary schools, eager to sharpen their creative skills.

She explained that the programme featured interactive sessions, practical exercises, and personalised feedback on key aspects of creative writing, including plot and character development, narrative craft, and effective use of language.

First introduced in 2024 under the leadership of ANA President, Dr. Usman Oladipo Akanbi, the initiative is fully funded by the Association. It was designed to bridge the gap between aspiring writers and the professional knowledge required to excel in creative writing.

This year’s edition, like the inaugural workshop, was described as a resounding success, producing another set of emerging voices expected to contribute to the growth of Nigerian literature. Certificates of Participation were presented to all attendees at the close of the event.

Participants, in their words of appreciation, commended Dr. Akanbi for sustaining the programme, while the General Secretary, Dame Joan Oji, PhD, was recognised for her encouragement. Also in attendance was Dr. Kabura Zakama, who inspired participants with words of mentorship and donated books to them.

Facilitators, Secretariat staff, and Corps members were equally acknowledged for their roles in ensuring the smooth execution of the workshop.

Ebulum noted that the initiative affirms ANA’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of writers in line with its vision to “catch them young.”
