APC hails President Tinubu’s leadership at midterm, highlights milestones in economy, security

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has praised President Bola Tinubu’s performance at the midpoint of his administration, describing his leadership as bold, reform-driven, and historic in addressing Nigeria’s longstanding challenges.

In a statement released Thursday, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka said President Tinubu had broken the cycle of “presidential inertia” by confronting deeply rooted economic and structural problems that previous administrations had avoided.

“President Tinubu is not the first to lead this country, but he is the first to decisively break with the stagnating culture of delay in leadership,” the party stated. “His administration has demonstrated unprecedented political will in tackling intergenerational challenges.”

The party commended Tinubu’s sweeping policy reforms, including the removal of the fuel subsidy and the unification of exchange rates, which it said had stabilized the economy despite initial hardships.

According to the APC, the reforms have begun yielding results, with Nigeria recording a 3.38% GDP growth in Q4 2024 — the highest in recent years — and consistent trade surpluses since 2023. The party also pointed to rising oil production, now surpassing OPEC quotas, as evidence of the success of its anti-oil theft campaign.

Beyond the economy, the statement highlighted progress in national security, with over 13,500 terrorists reportedly neutralized and nearly 18,000 arrested. Many internally displaced persons (IDPs), the party noted, have returned home, allowing farmers to resume cultivation and contributing to food price stability.

The APC also listed achievements in workers’ welfare, citing the approval of a ₦70,000 minimum wage and the introduction of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND). Over 900,000 Nigerians, it said, have benefited from the Presidential Loan and Grant Scheme.

In infrastructure, the party noted the launch or continuation of major highway and rail projects, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway, and the Kano-Kaduna Standard Gauge Rail. In total, more than 270 road projects have been completed in two years.
