APM’s Adekanmbi picks Open Salawu as running mate for Oyo gov race

The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Oyo State has unveiled Ogbomoso-born engineer, Muftau Open Salawu, as its deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 governorship election.

The party’s governorship candidate, Bimbo Adekanmbi, presented Salawu to party leaders, members and stakeholders on Wednesday at the APM Secretariat in Oke-Ado, Ibadan.

Adekanmbi said the choice of Salawu was aimed at complementing his strengths and sustaining the developmental strides recorded under Governor Seyi Makinde’s Omituntun 1.0 and Omituntun 2.0 administrations over the past seven years.

He commended Makinde for achievements in infrastructure, security, human capital development and economic growth, stating that an APM administration would build on those gains through what he described as Omituntun 3.0.

According to him, an APM government would prioritise infrastructure development, prompt payment of workers’ salaries, improved healthcare delivery, quality education, enhanced security, tourism development and other people-oriented programmes.

Adekanmbi also highlighted the credentials of his running mate, noting that Salawu previously headed the state’s project monitoring team and played a key role in ensuring government projects met approved standards.

Speaking after his unveiling, Salawu urged party members to remain united and work collectively for victory in the 2027 general elections, stressing that electoral success should take precedence over individual ambitions.

Earlier, the Oyo State Chairman of the APM, Otunba Adegbenro Fagbemi, described the alliance between the Peoples Democratic Party and the APM as a landmark political development and called on stakeholders to work together to secure victory for the party’s candidates at all levels in 2027.
