Aviation: ICAO Safety Team visits Nigeria to provide technical assistance

A team of technical experts from the West and Central African Region of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (WACAF-ICAO) is currently in Nigeria.
The ICAO Regional Office Safety Team, led by Rene Tavarez, arrived at the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) headquarters in Abuja on Monday.
The team is in the country to provide technical assistance ahead of the ICAO Coordinated Validation Mission (ICVM) scheduled for April 2026.
The Director-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Capt. Chris Najomo, who received the ICAO team, noted that the previous assistance missions helped Nigeria attain impressive Effective Implementation (EI) scores in all audit areas.
He commended the team for their knowledge and assistance and expressed optimism that the mission will yield a definitive approach, prioritise recommendations, and offer good counsel for a successful engagement at the upcoming ICVM.
The ICAO team is expected to be in the country for two weeks.
