BBN Season 11: Male housemates defeat female rivals in debate challenge

By Folashade Olorunfemi –
The male housemates in the 11th edition of Big Brother Naija, themed “Show Ya Sef,” defeated their female counterparts in a debate competition to win the season’s first wager task on Thursday.
The task centred on the age-old “Nature vs. Nurture” debate, with both teams presenting opposing arguments.
The female housemates argued in support of nurture, maintaining that a person’s character, behaviour and achievements are largely shaped by life experiences, upbringing and environment.
The male housemates, on the other hand, defended nature, arguing that inherited traits play a greater role in shaping individuals.
After both teams presented their arguments, Big Brother declared the male housemates the winners of the wager task. Although he admitted that neither team delivered an outstanding performance, he noted that the House was still in its “honeymoon phase” and said his decision was based on the stronger overall presentation.
Despite his reservations, Big Brother singled out Nomy, Neche, Chimsom Chuka, Cassi and Gerard for their standout contributions, praising their confidence, delivery and commitment during the task.
The competition came days after Big Brother introduced a major twist by dividing the contestants into male and female teams for selected tasks and competitions. Under the new format, wager tasks, arena games and other challenges are contested between the two teams, requiring housemates to work collectively to secure victories and rewards.
The rivalry between the male and female housemates is expected to intensify as the competition progresses, with the new format set to reshape the dynamics in the House as contestants balance teamwork with individual strategies.
