BREAKING: Ondo DLA chairman resigns, cites party interests

The Ondo State Chairman of the Democratic Leadership Alliance, Oluwatosin Israel Ayeni, has resigned from office, citing the need to promote fairness and political balance within the party.

Ayeni announced his immediate resignation in a letter dated Friday, September 18, 2026, and addressed to the party’s National Chairman, Samuel Memeh, at its Abuja headquarters.

The party chieftain said his decision was influenced by the political interest of his constituency, which he said was next in line to produce the governor of Ondo State.

He explained that stepping aside would create an opportunity for a competent member from another senatorial district to lead the state chapter and sustain the party’s affairs.

Ayeni stressed that his resignation was made in the interest of the party, adding that it was intended to strengthen unity, balance and progress within the organisation.

Despite leaving the chairmanship, he said he remained committed to the DLA and would continue to support its programmes, candidates and leadership at various levels.

He thanked the national leadership for the opportunity to serve and for the confidence placed in him during his tenure, promising to contribute to the party whenever called upon.

Ayeni also expressed hope that his resignation would pave the way for a smooth leadership transition and foster greater harmony within the DLA in Ondo State.
