Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to investing in quality education, healthcare, and child protection as Nigeria marks the 2025 Children’s Day.
In a personally signed statement issued on Tuesday in Ilorin, the governor congratulated children across the state, pledging continued support to policies and programmes aimed at giving them a strong foundation in life.
“As we commemorate Children’s Day across Nigeria today, I recommit myself to everything that gives the Kwara child a head start in life. Every child deserves to live and prosper in dignity — and this depends on all of us that they look up to,” the governor stated.
He highlighted several of his administration’s initiatives, including investments in basic education and healthcare, a strong anti-child-hawking stance, six-month paid maternity leave, and the enforcement of child protection laws.
Governor AbdulRazaq also aligned with the theme of this year’s celebration, “Stand Up, Speak Up: Building a Bullying-Free Generation”, noting the state’s efforts to provide a safe and inclusive learning environment.
“Our premium KwaraLEARN initiative gives us unfettered access to classrooms in every corner of the state,” he said. “We have enacted the Violence Against Persons Law to protect every Kwaran, including children, from any form of violence. School children now have direct access to top education authorities in the state to ensure their interests are protected.”
He expressed satisfaction with the progress made in the education sector, adding that Kwara’s children are leading their peers nationwide in academic performance and that the state currently boasts the lowest under-five mortality rate in Nigeria.
The governor urged stakeholders to support the government’s efforts through newly launched programmes like the Education Trust Fund and other multi-pronged approaches to child welfare.
He concluded by wishing all children a happy celebration.
