Ekiti police sergeant faces disciplinary action over viral misconduct video

The Nigeria Police Force in Ekiti State has commenced disciplinary action against a police sergeant captured in a viral video allegedly behaving erratically in Asin Ekiti, Ikole LGA.

The video, which circulated widely on social media, showed the uniformed officer displaying unusual behaviour in a public place as residents gathered around the scene.

Eyewitnesses alleged that the officer’s conduct appeared linked to the use of “Colorado,” a psychoactive substance reportedly abused in some parts of the country.

The incident has since sparked reactions online, with many Nigerians expressing concern over substance abuse and professionalism within security agencies.

Confirming the development on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Sunday Abutu, said the officer had been identified and taken into custody.

Abutu disclosed that the sergeant, attached to the Ikole-Ekiti Divisional Headquarters, is currently stable and undergoing necessary procedures.

“The officer has been identified, arrested and taken into custody,” the police spokesman said.

“The behaviour portrayed in the viral video does not reflect the discipline and standards of the Nigeria Police Force. The officer will undergo medical and psychological evaluation before further disciplinary action,” he added.
