Seyi Makinde has urged members of his political camp in Oyo State to remain united as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
The governor gave the advice during a dinner with political associates, government appointees and party stakeholders on Friday night, stressing that internal crises and rivalry could threaten the progress recorded by his administration.
Makinde warned against allowing personal ambitions to divide the camp, noting that political offices are limited and should not become a source of conflict among loyalists.
“There must not be division among us. We have to continue supporting one another so the people of Oyo State can continue to benefit from this team,” he said.
The governor emphasised the need for collective interest to take priority over individual aspirations, adding that unity and cooperation remain critical to sustaining peace, stability and development in the state.
He also expressed appreciation to residents of Oyo State for giving his administration the opportunity to serve, describing leadership as a privilege.
Reflecting on his political journey, Makinde revealed that he initially aimed to become a senator before circumstances eventually led him to contest the governorship election in 2019. According to him, political developments moved quickly after he secured the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party in 2018, eventually leading to his emergence as governor within months.
Makinde advised his loyalists to remain patient, disciplined and supportive of one another rather than engaging in unhealthy competition ahead of the next election cycle. Those present at the dinner included Bayo Lawal, Debo Ogundoyin, Bimbo Adekanmbi, Adedeji Stanley Olajide and Olufemi Ajadi, among other stakeholders.
