Family confirms death of famous theatre practitioner Kola Oyewo, speaks on ‘life of legacy’

The family of renowned theatre practitioner, actor and scholar, Chief (Dr.) Gabriel Adekola Oyewo, popularly known as Kola Oyewo, has confirmed his death at the age of 80.

In a statement issued by Dr. Adewale Oyewo on behalf of the Oyewo family, the veteran actor and Balogun of Oba-Ile was said to have died peacefully on Friday, after a brief illness.

The family described Oyewo as a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, mentor and community leader whose life was defined by faith, dedication, service and integrity.

According to the statement, the respected theatre icon positively impacted countless lives through his wisdom, kindness and exemplary character, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, commitment to family and service to humanity.

Reflecting on what it described as a life of legacy, the family expressed gratitude to God for the gift of his life and the remarkable impact he made during his 80 years on earth.

“Though he will be greatly missed, we are comforted by the memories, values and enduring legacy he leaves behind,” the statement said.

The family also appreciated the prayers, support and goodwill extended to them during this period of mourning and prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul.
