FCTA announces 19-day project commissioning to mark Tinubu’s second anniversary

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has announced a 19-day schedule for the commissioning of major infrastructure projects across Abuja, in commemoration of the second anniversary of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

This was disclosed following the 14th Executive Committee meeting of the FCTA, held on Tuesday and presided over by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike. The programme is part of activities to highlight the achievements of the Tinubu-led administration within the Federal Capital Territory.

According to a statement issued by the Minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, the commissioning activities will commence on June 10, 2025, and run for 19 consecutive days.

Among the projects slated for commissioning are the newly renovated Abuja International Conference Centre, Bus Terminals in Kugbo and Mabushi, as well as the strategic Apo-Wassa road. These developments are expected to ease movement and improve service delivery across the capital.

Additional infrastructure set for inauguration includes the N16 Interchange and the connecting roads from Maitama through Katampe to Jahi, the Inner Northern Expressway from Ring Road 3 (Idu to Kubwa Road), and CN8 from N5 (Obafemi Awolowo Way) to the Court of Appeal. Also listed are the N20 Flyover on Onnex-Kubwa Road and the Life Junction to Ring Road III.

The FCTA will also commission roads such as the Kabulsa-Takushara and Kabusa-Ketti Access Roads, the access road in Giri District, a 15-kilometre stretch from A2 Junction on the Abuja-Lokoja Road to Pai in Kwali Area Council, and roads in Ushafa, War College, and the Army Checkpoint in Bwari Area Council.

In a related development, the FCT Executive Committee has approved a contract for the upgrade of streetlights along the Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway (Ring Road I), a 14-kilometer, 10-lane expressway connecting Maitama to Gudu. The project is one of seven memos submitted by the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) and approved at the meeting.

Speaking on the development, Acting Executive Secretary of the FCDA, Mr. Richard Dauda, noted that the existing lighting system—installed between 2005 and 2006—has become obsolete. He added that a modern hybrid lighting system will be installed to enhance nighttime visibility and security, in line with current technological standards.
