FG cautions public against fake diplomatic recruitment scheme

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a strong warning to the public about a fraudulent recruitment letter circulating online, which falsely claims that the Federal Government is recruiting diplomats across Nigeria’s 109 diplomatic missions worldwide.
In a statement signed by Alkasim Abdulkadir, Special Assistant to the Minister on Media and Communications Strategy, the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, categorically dismissed the document as fake and misleading.
The letter, titled “The Federal Government of Nigeria Begins Recruitment of Diplomats in 109 Diplomatic Missions Worldwide,” was described by the Ministry as a fabrication with no basis in reality. “The contents of this letter are entirely fictitious and did not originate from any official government source,” the Minister stated.
Ambassador Tuggar emphasized that the recruitment of Foreign Service Officers falls solely under the jurisdiction of the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC). He further clarified that the Ministry has neither initiated any recruitment exercise nor authorized any individual or group to act on its behalf in that regard.
“This false communication is the handiwork of mischief-makers with malicious intent,” the statement warned, urging Nigerians both at home and abroad to disregard the letter and avoid engaging with such fraudulent schemes.
The Ministry advised the public to verify any official information through trusted government channels and reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, due process, and professionalism in managing Nigeria’s foreign relations.
