FG, Sports Commission partner to support creative, sports infrastructure

The Federal Government has launched a strategic partnership between the Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy and the National Sports Commission to develop infrastructure supporting Nigeria’s creative and sports sectors.

This initiative was unveiled on Thursday following a meeting in Abuja between the Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Barr. Hannatu Musa Musawa, and Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko.

Minister Musawa said the collaboration is aimed at uniting two of the most powerful forces that engage Nigerian youth—sports and creativity. She emphasized that while both sectors hold transformative potential, their growth has been slowed by poor infrastructure.

To address this, she said the two institutions would work together to establish concert venues, museums, gaming and animation hubs, and creative centres that merge art, tourism, and sports into a single ecosystem.

She also announced plans to formalize the collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and highlighted projects like the Equestrian City and the Renewed Hope Cultural Hubs, which would benefit from the joint initiative.

According to Musawa, “When sports and creativity speak, Nigerians listen and unite. We have a powerful role to play in building a shared identity and driving growth through our combined efforts.”

In his remarks, Mallam Dikko agreed that sports and creativity are intertwined and crucial to national unity. He affirmed the Sports Commission’s commitment to providing land and infrastructure to support the initiative.

Dikko added that both sectors are key to diversifying Nigeria’s economy and promised full support for the partnership, which he said aligns with the Sports City vision and the Federal Government’s broader development agenda.
