Kwara APC deputy governorship candidate swap remains unconfirmed

Reports of a change in the All Progressives Congress’ deputy governorship candidate in Kwara State have continued to circulate, with serving lawmaker David Seun Ogunniyi, popularly known as Adato, reportedly replacing Mubarak Salau.
The development emerged late Saturday, days after the Independent National Electoral Commission released the list of candidates for the 2027 governorship election.
However, the reported replacement has yet to be officially confirmed by the state chapter of the APC. When contacted by Western Post, the state APC Chairman, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, neither confirmed nor denied the report, saying, “A statement would be issued on the matter soon.”
Ogunniyi is a serving member of the Kwara State House of Assembly, where he represents the Ojomu/Balogun Constituency in Offa Local Government Area.
He obtained an HND in Computer Science from Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, before earning a bachelor’s degree in Policy and Strategic Studies from Covenant University, Ota.
He later obtained a master’s degree in Conflict, Peace and Strategic Studies from Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti, and is currently pursuing a PhD in Peace and Development Studies at the University of Ilorin.
Ogunniyi also completed the Advanced Management Programme at Lagos Business School in 2014 and holds a postgraduate diploma in Credit Management from the London Postgraduate Credit Management College in the United Kingdom.
Before entering politics, he served as Country Managing Director of DuPont Nigeria, with responsibilities covering the company’s West African markets, including Nigeria and Ghana. He had earlier served as Country Sales Manager at 3M Company and held other senior leadership positions across the oil and gas, defence, law enforcement and emergency response, public transportation, and health care sectors.
