Lagos unveils traffic diversion plan for ECOWAS 50th anniversary

The Lagos State Government has announced a traffic diversion plan on key roads in Victoria Island to facilitate the smooth hosting of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) 50th anniversary celebration, taking place from May 27 to 29.

In a statement released on Monday, Bolanle Ogunlola, Deputy Director of Public Affairs at the state’s Ministry of Transportation, said the diversion is to ensure seamless traffic flow and enhance security around the Nigeria Institute of International Affairs (NIIA) and Eko Hotels and Suites, the venue of the event.

President Bola Tinubu is expected to deliver a keynote address at the golden jubilee event, focusing on the economic achievements of the regional bloc.

Motorists heading to Lagos Island or the mainland from Eko Hotel roundabout are advised to use Adetokunbo Ademola Road through Civic Centre to Ozumba Mbadiwe Road. From there, they can continue to Bonny Camp roundabout and head toward Lagos Island or the mainland.

Alternatively, drivers can take the Falomo ramp near the Law School. Those exiting Ajose Adeogun or Adetokunbo Ademola via Eko Hotel roundabout should use Sanusi Fafunwa Street, proceed to Akin Adesola, and either turn left to access Ahmadu Bello Way or Adeola Odeku, or right toward Falomo Bridge or the Law School route.

Motorists leaving Lagos Continental Hotel en route to Bonny Camp are directed to take Kofo Abayomi to Kilimanjaro Junction on Ozumba Mbadiwe. From there, they can either head to Bonny Camp or Lekki.

Those approaching Kofo Abayomi from Bonny Camp should turn right at Kilimanjaro Junction to access Lagos Continental Hotel. Commuters from Independence or McEwen Bridge are advised to turn left at the IMB Building on Ahmadu Bello Way by Atlantic City, then connect to Akin Adesola to reach Eko Hotel through inner streets.

Ogunlola said personnel from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be stationed along the affected routes to guide motorists and minimize disruptions.
