LAMATA, MOFI host stakeholders as AfDB assesses Green Line project

The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI), hosted key stakeholders as the African Development Bank (AfDB) assessed the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Green Line project for proposed financing.
The meeting, held on July 24 at the Lagos Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, formed part of the AfDB’s appraisal mission to evaluate the project’s readiness and compliance with the bank’s environmental, social and institutional requirements.
The engagement focused on the entire Green Line project, with particular attention on Phase 1A, which will run from the Lekki First Toll Gate to Sangotedo. The corridor is expected to improve mobility and boost economic activities along the rapidly developing Lekki-Epe axis.
Participants received presentations on the project’s alignment, implementation strategy, land acquisition process, compensation framework and traffic management plans designed to minimise disruptions during construction.
The session also gave community leaders and other stakeholders the opportunity to ask questions and make contributions.
LAMATA restated its commitment to implementing the Green Line in line with international best practices, assuring stakeholders that the project would comply with environmental and social safeguard standards while maintaining transparent engagement with affected communities and businesses.
The meeting was attended by the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi; the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, Olawale Musa; and the Managing Director of LAMATA, Engr. Abimbola Akinajo, who led the authority’s executive management team.
The AfDB delegation was led by its Task Leader, Engr. Sheila Akyea, while MOFI’s team was headed by Executive Director, Investment Management, Kemi Owonubi Babalogbon. Traditional rulers, community leaders, representatives of the Lekki Estates Residents and Stakeholders Association (LERSA), and officials of LASTMA, the Nigeria Police Force, the Federal Road Safety Corps and other public and private sector organisations also attended.
