Malami denies reports of arms discovery, terror financing allegations
By Kunle Sanni –
The Office of Abubakar Malami has dismissed recent media reports alleging that arms and ammunition were found in a residence linked to the former Attorney-General, describing the claims as false and unsupported by any official record.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Special Assistant on Media, Mohammed Bello Doka, the office said no cache of weapons had been discovered in any property associated with Malami and that no such information had been formally communicated to his family or legal representatives.
The statement also rejected allegations linking Malami to terrorism or terrorism financing, arguing that the claims lack verifiable details such as named individuals, organisations, transactions, or dates. According to the office, the reports are speculative and amount to a “media trial” that undermines the constitutional presumption of innocence.
Malami’s office noted that he has not been convicted of any offence and accused sections of the media of presenting allegations and ongoing investigations as established facts.
The statement further alleged that, since his arrest by the Department of State Services (DSS) on Monday, Malami has been denied access to his family and legal team. It said the prolonged isolation raises concerns about his welfare and his constitutional right to legal counsel and family contact.
Concerns were also raised about the impact of what the office described as sensational and unverified reporting on Malami’s family and staff.
