Nigeria sets Guinness World Record with largest gathering of teachers in Lagos

Nigeria has officially entered the Guinness World Records for hosting the largest gathering of teachers, after 5,082 educators assembled at Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos on September 20, 2025 for the Let There Be Teachers Conference.
The record-breaking event was organised by Oluwaseyi Anifowose, in partnership with Let There Be Teachers and 1 Million Teachers (1MT). The achievement was confirmed by Guinness World Records following a detailed audit of steward reports, witness statements, photographs, and video documentation.
“This record is not just about numbers — it is about the dignity, resilience, and impact of teachers,” said Hakeem Subair, Founder and CEO of 1 Million Teachers. “At a time when education faces unprecedented challenges, Nigeria has shown the world that teachers are the true nation builders — the ones who carry the future in their classrooms.”

The historic gathering brought together educators from across the country and served as a powerful statement about the value of teachers and the need for renewed investment in the teaching profession. Organisers described it as more than a conference — a movement to elevate the status of teachers in national development.
The official Guinness World Records certificate reads:
“The largest gathering of teachers was achieved by Oluwaseyi Anifowose, Let There Be Teachers, and 1 Million Teachers (all Nigeria) in Lagos, Nigeria, on 20 September 2025.”

With this recognition, Nigeria reinforces its role as a leader in education advocacy on the global stage. The event also marks a milestone in the ongoing mission of 1 Million Teachers, which aims to train, support, and celebrate educators across Africa and beyond.
Let There Be Teachers and 1MT say they will continue using such platforms to drive policy dialogue and inspire young professionals to see teaching as a noble and impactful career.
