Nollywood actress Atinuke Kareem dies after battling breast cancer

Nollywood actress Atinuke Remilekun Kareem has died after battling breast cancer, the Ogun State chapter of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) has announced.

Her death was announced on Tuesday by her colleague and TAMPAN Ogun State Governor, Owolabi Ajasa, in a statement shared on his Instagram page.

Kareem had previously appealed to Nigerians for financial assistance and prayers as she underwent treatment for breast cancer. In a video shared alongside the announcement of her death, the actress spoke about the financial burden of her treatment and appealed for support.

“I’m a breast cancer patient. It has been going on for a while. My family has spent a lot of money; I’ve come to seek help. The association I belong to, TAMPAN, has tried too, but it’s not enough. Don’t allow me to die this way; I have two young children. Nigerians, please help me with any amount you can use to help,” Kareem said in the video.

The actress had disclosed that she was a mother of two, while TAMPAN members also provided support during her illness. However, she said the assistance was insufficient to meet her medical needs.

TAMPAN Ogun State expressed appreciation to colleagues, fans and well-wishers who contributed financially, offered prayers and provided moral support to Kareem and her family during her illness.

The association, in a statement signed by its public relations officer, Femi Solaja, described her death as a painful loss and said members could only submit to the will of God.

The association prayed for the peaceful repose of Kareem’s soul and for strength for her family, colleagues, friends and loved ones to cope with the loss.
