The race for the chairmanship of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Oyo State Council, intensified on Thursday as Comrade Olusola Oladapo “Summer” formally unveiled his agenda ahead of the December election.

The event, held at the Press Centre in Ibadan, attracted journalists, senior media stakeholders and supporters who came to hear his plans for the Union.

Oladapo, the current Council Secretary, said his ambition “is driven by a desire to reposition the Union as a model of welfare, professionalism and ethical journalism.”

Director-General of the campaign, Dare Adekanmbi, described the declaration as “a new dawn for journalists in Oyo State,” saying Oladapo’s leadership would restore dignity and strengthen members’ welfare.

He assured members that the agenda is built on transparency and inclusiveness, adding that “under Oladapo, NUJ Oyo will not only work for journalists but will stand by them in every moment that matters.”

Oladapo highlighted welfare as a major focus, promising a Welfare and Emergency Fund, group health insurance, annual safety kits and a legal aid desk to protect members during assignments.

He also pledged improved training, economic empowerment, transparency, stronger unity within chapels and an upgraded press centre, urging members to support his bid to build a more innovative and welfare-driven NUJ Oyo.
