Ondo pastor faults govt over insecurity, stages prayer walk

The General Overseer of Prayer Centre Church of God, Akure, Prophet Samson Oluwamodede, has blamed governments at all levels for failing to adequately protect Nigerians amid worsening insecurity across the country.

Speaking during a prayer walk against insecurity organised by his church in Akure on Sunday, the cleric urged citizens to seek divine intervention, describing it as the nation’s remaining source of hope.

The event, which lasted for over three hours, saw hundreds of church members march through major roads in the Ondo State capital carrying placards with messages calling for an end to terrorism, banditry and other security challenges confronting the country.

Oluwamodede said the church could no longer remain silent as killings, kidnappings and terrorist attacks continued to threaten lives and livelihoods across Nigeria.

According to him, recent abductions of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo and Borno states highlight the severity of the country’s security crisis and the urgent need for intervention.

“I cannot sit quietly and watch what is happening in Nigeria. There are killings, kidnappings and bloodshed everywhere. That is why I mobilised members of the church for this prayer walk to seek God’s intervention for the nation,” he said.

The cleric further acknowledged efforts by security agencies and governments but maintained that they had not succeeded in addressing the situation.

Reacting to the recent abduction of schoolchildren in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, Oluwamodede said insecurity was no longer confined to any particular region, noting that the South-West was increasingly experiencing security threats, stressing the need for restoration through divine intervention.
