Oyo govt moves against roadside trading, illegal parking at Iwo road

The Oyo State Government has instructed traders and motorists operating along major roads around Iwo Road in Ibadan to vacate the roadside and relocate to the official Iwo Road Bus Terminal.

According to sources, the directive followed concerns over the resurgence of roadside trading, indiscriminate parking and illegal passenger loading, which authorities say have worsened traffic congestion and created safety hazards in the area.

While announcing the order during an inspection of the Iwo Road Bus Terminal, the Chairman of OYRTMA, Major Adekoya Adesagba (Rtd), expressed concern that many transport operators and traders had abandoned the government-built facility and returned to roadside operations.

According to him, the terminal was established to promote an orderly, safe and efficient transport system, noting that roadside activities defeat the purpose of the facility and obstruct the free flow of traffic.

He added that the government would sustain enforcement efforts to ensure compliance, warning that individuals or groups who fail to obey the directive would face sanctions in line with existing traffic and environmental laws.
