Peter Obi signed agreement to rule for one term — Kwankwaso

Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has said Peter Obi signed a written agreement to serve only one term as president if the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) wins the 2027 general election.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, Kwankwaso said the agreement, which was documented in writing, also provides that he would seek the party’s presidential ticket in 2031 after Obi’s single term.

The former Kano State governor and vice presidential candidate of the NDC, said he was confident Obi would honour the agreement and not renege on the commitment.

“I personally believe him, and I don’t think, based on what I now know about him, that he will renege. I don’t think he will change his mind. We have put the agreement on paper, one with the party and one between the two of us,” Kwankwaso said.

He added that he was pleased with the partnership, describing it as a united effort aimed at repositioning the country.

“I am so happy that today I am working together with His Excellency Peter Obi, and we are comparing notes. We are working together. We are working as a team. We are happy with what we are doing,” he said.

Kwankwaso said both leaders were focused on implementing their immediate political plans ahead of the 2027 election while also considering longer-term objectives for the country.

Peter Obi and Kwankwaso were both presidential candidates in the 2023 election before joining forces under the NDC ahead of the 2027 polls.
