PHOTOS: Shettima receives Zamfara governor into APC, says end to insecurity in sight

Vice President Kashim Shettima on Tuesday formally received Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, into the All Progressives Congress (APC), expressing optimism that insecurity in Nigeria will soon be brought under control.
Speaking during a grand reception held in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital, Shettima said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is working hard to restore peace and ensure the safety of lives and property across the country.

He said the administration remains committed to tackling security challenges in Zamfara and other affected states, expressing hope that the governor’s defection to the ruling party would strengthen efforts to address the challenges.
“We pray for more unity and progress under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu because our leader is working very hard to ensure the safety of lives and property across Nigeria,” the Vice President said.
Shettima also expressed confidence that the APC would continue to grow stronger in Zamfara, noting that key political actors in the state are now aligned with the party.
Earlier, Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, who represented Senate President Godswill Akpabio, said members of the National Assembly elected on the APC platform support the governor’s move.
He noted that closer collaboration between Zamfara State and the Federal Government would help address development and security challenges facing the state.
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, described the governor’s defection as a historic development for the state, stating that it would strengthen the APC’s presence.
