Tinubu celebrates ex-military administrator Olanrewaju at 80

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated retired Major General Adeniyi Tajudeen Olanrewaju on his 80th birthday, describing him as a distinguished patriot, statesman, and disciplined military officer whose life has been devoted to the service of Nigeria.

In a statement issued on Friday, Tinubu praised Olanrewaju’s decades of service in the military and public sector, noting that his contributions to national development remain significant.

The President said the retired general’s life had been marked by “uncommon service, courage, sacrifice, and enduring commitment to the Nigerian nation.”

He noted that Olanrewaju was among the pioneering Lagos indigenes trained at the Nigerian Defence Academy after the creation of Lagos State and rose through the ranks of the Nigerian Army through merit and discipline.

“From his early years as one of the pioneering Lagos indigenes trained at the Nigerian Defence Academy following the creation of Lagos State, to his meritorious rise through the ranks of the Nigerian Army, he distinguished himself as a brilliant officer, strategic thinker, and disciplined patriot,” Tinubu said.

The President also highlighted the retired general’s military record, including his role during the Nigerian Civil War and his leadership positions in the armed forces.

“He served gallantly during the Nigerian Civil War, underwent advanced military training in the United Kingdom, the United States, and India, and went on to hold several strategic command and leadership positions,” the statement read.

Tinubu further commended Olanrewaju’s contributions as Minister of Communications, saying his tenure helped shape the early foundations of the deregulation and modernisation of Nigeria’s telecommunications sector.
