Tinubu to attend first State House press dinner in Abuja
The State House Press Corps (SHPC) has announced plans to host its first-ever annual “Presidential Press Corps Dinner,” an event designed to strengthen engagement between journalists covering the presidency and senior government officials.
The dinner, initially slated for Thursday, June 4, has now been rescheduled to Friday, June 19, and will take place at the State House Conference Centre, Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The SHPC—made up of journalists accredited to cover the President and activities within the Presidential Villa. According to the organisers, the event aims to recognize excellence in presidential reporting while providing a rare informal setting for interaction between the media and top government figures.
In a statement issued on Monday, SHPC Chairman Dr. Anule Emmanuel described the maiden edition as a historic milestone for the presidential media beat.
“This event marks a historic milestone for the State House Press Corps,” he said. “For the first time, we are bringing together the crème de la crème of Nigeria’s media industry to honour the dedicated professionals who report from the Villa — a beat that is often demanding and rarely offers public recognition.”
According to the organisers, President Bola Tinubu is expected to attend the event, where he will also be formally recognized as Grand Patron of the State House Press Corps and decorated during the ceremony.
Other top government officials expected at the dinner include Vice President Kashim Shettima, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, alongside several state governors.
The SHPC said the dinner will provide journalists and senior officials an opportunity for direct engagement in a more relaxed environment compared to routine press briefings at the Villa.
“We are bringing together the crème de la crème of Nigeria’s media industry to honour the dedicated professionals who report from the Villa,” the chairman added.
