Umahi invites EFCC, ICPC to probe Works Ministry projects

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has announced that the Federal Ministry of Works has opened its financial records and project documents for independent scrutiny as part of efforts to promote transparency and accountability.
Speaking during a media briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, Umahi said he was prepared to defend all expenditures, procurement procedures, and contract awards carried out under his leadership.
According to the minister, anti-corruption agencies have already been invited to review the ministry’s operations and physically verify ongoing and completed projects amid public concerns about transparency.
“We are not hiding anything because we care for Nigerians. Any information and file that they want, we shall make it available,” he said.
Umahi disclosed that the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) had already completed part of its review, while the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was expected to begin its own investigation.
He explained that the ministry formally requested both agencies to examine its projects and procurement processes.
“ICPC has concluded their review, and we have provided them office space to examine our procurement procedures. We also wrote to EFCC to carry out their own investigation,” he said.
The minister insisted that due process was followed in awarding contracts and that all project costs could be justified.
