Wike’s PDP camp working for Tinubu’s second term — Makinde

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has alleged that members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with a faction linked to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, are indirectly supporting President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

Makinde made the remarks on Sunday during a closed-door meeting held in Bauchi with Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State and Senator Seriake Dickson, who represents Bayelsa West.

According to him, his earlier engagement with Wike and President Tinubu revealed an understanding that the faction would back the president’s second-term ambition, adding that anyone associating with the group should be seen as aligning with that position.

“So, anyone dealing with Wike and his group, in any guise, what it means is you have also agreed to support President Tinubu for 2027. We are not begrudging them; you can support whoever you like, but go to them if that is your position,” Makinde said.

The governor maintained that while individuals are free to support any political interest, those who identify with the Wike-led camp have effectively chosen their political direction ahead of the 2027 elections.

Makinde further claimed that the faction enjoys institutional backing but insisted that his own camp draws strength from popular support among Nigerians.

His comments come amid ongoing efforts within the PDP to resolve internal divisions following disputes over party leadership and convention outcomes in some states.

Meanwhile, Bala Mohammed, who also spoke on the matter, distanced the reconciliation process from political alignment, explaining that it was initiated in compliance with a court directive.

He emphasised that the party remains committed to the rule of law and expressed optimism that existing differences within the PDP can be resolved through dialogue and mutual understanding.
