Plateau Governor Caleb Mutfwang set to join APC in January 2026

By Kunle Sanni –

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced plans to receive Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang into the party by January.

The National Chairman of the APC, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, disclosed this on Thursday while speaking with journalists after a well-attended stakeholders’ meeting held at the Crest Hotel, Jos.

According to Professor Yilwatda, the party is planning a colourful reception to mark Governor Mutfwang’s anticipated defection, describing the move as a significant development that would further position the APC as the dominant political party in Plateau State.

He stated that Governor Mutfwang’s entry into the APC would galvanise, consolidate, and strengthen the party’s structure across the state. The APC chairman added that the party remains open to “everyone that matters in the country” who is willing to join, noting that his leadership is focused on ensuring the APC records victories in future elections at all levels.

Professor Yilwatda also announced that the tenure of the current executive councils of the party nationwide has been converted into caretaker committees, with their tenure expected to end in March next year. He urged party members to participate actively in the ongoing electronic registration exercise to become bona fide members of the APC.

Also speaking at the meeting, former Plateau State Governor and Senator representing Plateau South, Simon Lalong, commended party members for their resilience, loyalty, and continued support for the APC in the state. Senator Lalong, who is the party leader in Plateau State, dismissed concerns arising from recent political developments, describing them as unnecessary.

He assured party members that they would continue to be recognised, respected, and fully involved in all political arrangements within the party.

In his welcome address, the Plateau State Chairman of the APC, Hon. Rufus Bature, reaffirmed the commitment of party members to respect and support the decisions of the party leadership.
