Arise News correspondent Akinsanya joins CNN for new Africa-focused programme

Arise News International correspondent and anchor, Adefemi Akinsanya, has joined Cable News Network (CNN) International to launch its new multiplatform feature series, Africa Inc., aimed at showcasing Africa’s growing influence on global commerce, innovation and consumer trends.

CNN announced the appointment in a statement on Wednesday, saying the series, sponsored by Dangote Industries Limited, will highlight how African companies are competing and thriving globally across sectors including technology, hospitality, manufacturing and entertainment.

According to the network, the half-hour programme will premiere later this month, with four additional episodes scheduled through 2026 and into 2027. Africa Inc. will also feature bi-monthly segments across CNN International, alongside digital and social media content.

Before joining CNN, Akinsanya served as an international correspondent and anchor with Arise News in Lagos. She previously worked with Al Jazeera, Reuters, Sky News and TRT World.

The British-born Nigerian journalist has reported from the frontlines of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, covering the refugee crisis and the role of race during the early evacuation efforts. She has also covered the #EndSARS protests in Nigeria, the 2024 United States presidential election, the World Economic Forum in Davos and the 2026 G7 Summit in Évian-les-Bains.

Reacting to her appointment, Akinsanya described it as an exciting opportunity to tell Africa’s stories to a global audience.

“Across the continent, we’re seeing innovation, resilience and ambition transforming industries and creating opportunities with global impact. I’m looking forward to bringing these stories to CNN’s audience,” she said.

Welcoming her to the network, CNN International Group Senior Vice President and Global Head of Productions, Ellana Lee, said Africa’s growing role in the global economy made the new programme timely.
